BDO for the Climate. Global Responsibility – Local Action.
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and at BDO, we take this responsibility seriously — both as a global network and as local advisory and audit firms. In September 2021, BDO proudly joined the Net-Zero Financial Service Providers Alliance (NZFSPA), committing alongside our GPPC partners to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or earlier, in line with the Paris Agreement.
The BDO Global Net-Zero Program
Our global Net-Zero program provides all BDO member firms with a standardized methodology and unified framework, enabling them to:
- accurately calculate baseline emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3),
- set science-based net-zero targets, and
- fulfill annual reporting requirements in a consistent and auditable way.
This allowed us to extrapolate a global carbon footprint for the BDO network — a major milestone that reflects our collective commitment to sustainability and sets a benchmark for others in the professional services sector.
Transparency and Accountability in Audit
At BDO, our environmental responsibility is deeply embedded in how we operate. Our approach to Net-Zero aligns with the values we uphold in our audit work: quality, integrity, and independence. We are proud to support our clients in their ESG journeys — delivering audit services that not only meet professional standards, but also contribute to building a more sustainable world.
Looking Ahead
From 2024 onward, every BDO firm worldwide is required to:
- measure its carbon footprint,
- submit SBTi-compliant targets (Science Based Targets initiative),
- and report according to TCFD recommendations (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures).
