The report has been compiled from the responses of a representative cross-section of 649 hotels comprising 82,165 rooms. The results are grouped according to geographic location.


Key findings of Hotel Britain 2017

Highlights from this year’s report include:

  • London hotels’ performance remained flat during 2016 however, AARR showed healthy growth for most London hotel segments. The top performing segment was townhouse and boutique hotels.
  • Regional hotels continued to experience a steady growth and occupancy was up by 1.0% to 76.7% setting a new record.
  • Overseas visitor numbers grew for the seventh consecutive year in 2016 setting a new annual record at 37.3 million for any 12 month period.
  • UK airports experienced a record breaking year in terms of passenger growth, up by 6.3% to 270.7m.
  • The volume of UK hotel transactions was down by approximately 56%. An improved economic forecast for the UK and further currency depreciation could see transactions levels remain at similar levels in 2017.
  • There are currently over 16,000 rooms in the UK’s active hotel pipeline expected to be opened during 2017 and 2018.
